For Goodness' Sake is a kooky song about lots of nasty stuff that seems to get regularly ignored or that some people don't ever hear about because the information isn't widely publicized. I could have probably created about 100 more verses, because that's humanity for you! I don't wish to down-play a lot of great things about humanity though. There seems to be a recurring problem created by people putting money ahead of other people (acquiring more wealth than needed, profits ahead of lives). SO many examples of pain and suffering that wouldn't have to be, if people were able to simply love others as they love themselves and love God and all of creation with their hearts and souls ahead of choosing vast wealth and stuff to signal their “success”.
This song has a jokey vibe, because we all carry a certain level of denial about the bad things that happen ‘outside of our control’. These issues are not a joke at all, but the fact people habitually perpetuate them is a shocking joke. I think this song style is both an accessible way for people to listen to these hard truths without ‘closing their ears’, and hopefully could prompt some positive action as a result. It’s also a little bit shocking to talk so bluntly about this stuff (a bit ‘meta’), so might hopefully have some viral potential on social media. Bring on the revolution!
Of course, we all do bad stuff sometimes deliberately for our own gain, or accidentally / in ignorance, and it's very often hard to know what good or bad is, every one of us is complicit in allowing the issues raised in this song to perpetuate whether we like it or not. But the above truth "love people ahead of money”, is a winning philosophy. What we do with money matters. The challenge of this song is, to not blindly continue habitually doing or facilitating. Stand up against injustice and improve life for all, reject the easier path of self-gratification. We can find true peace by living as God intended us to, by helping others.
